Part of Archive of the Royal Italian Consulate in Cairo (1861–1940)

The organisation of schools emerging from the Cairo Consulate archive reflects:

  • Law of 18 December 1910 no. 867 (“Reorganisation of Italian schools abroad”) and the subsequent regulations approved by Royal Decree of 20 June 1912 no. 1005 and later amendments;
  • and Law of 15 July 1923 no. 1659 (“Reorganisation of secondary schools abroad”).

The rules provide for the establishment and maintenance by the State of government schools:

  • infant schools and kindergartens;
  • primary schools;
  • secondary schools and, where applicable, higher courses.

The laws also provide that colonial and private schools may receive government subsidies provided they accept government inspections.
